DENVER (KDVR) — U.S. Highway 40 closed Thursday evening near Milner after a deadly crash.

The highway was closed in both directions at County Road 50, near mile marker 120, which is 9 miles west of Steamboat Springs, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Colorado State Patrol told FOX31 that a call reporting the crash came in at 4:48 p.m. There was hail all over the road.

Two vehicles were involved, and the sole occupant of one of the vehicles died on the scene, according to CSP. The driver and a passenger from the other vehicle were taken to a hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not specified.

When is hail season in Colorado?

CDOT said drivers should expect delays in the area, and CSP said a coroner was headed to the scene.
