United planes clip wings on tarmac at SFO

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A United Airlines plane parking at a gate clipped wings with another United plane at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday night, a United spokesperson confirmed to KRON4. Flight UA2181 was parking at gate F3 when it clipped the wing of a nearby parked United aircraft.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident and passengers deplaned as normal, United said.

Flight UA2181 was an Airbus A319. There were 105 passengers and five crew members on board at the time of the incident, officials said.

According to flight tracking website FlightAware, the plane was coming in from Reno, Nevada for a stopover in SFO before heading to Fort Lauderdale.

This marked the latest in a series of mishaps involving United flights, many of them at SFO. Early last month, a United flight from SFO to Japan lost a wheel during takeoff and had to divert to Los Angeles. Earlier this week, a United flight bound for SFO from Frankfurt, Germany, was forced to return to the airport due to a toilet that overflowed into the cabin.
