Unattended candle sparks fire at Naperville home

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — A home in Naperville was damaged after an unattended candle sparked a fire in the kitchen on Sunday afternoon.

According to officials from the Naperville Fire Department, crews were called to the scene, in the 2800 block of Ledgestone Drive, just before 2 p.m. after a resident in the area reported smoke coming from their neighbor’s home.

Crews arrived at the home within five minutes of the call and found a fire had broken out in the kitchen. Crews were able to enter the home and put out the fire, using a fire extinguisher, less than five minutes after arriving on the scene.

Officials say they believe the fire was caused by an unattended candle and say it caused an estimated $5,000 in damage.

According to fire officials, no residents were home at the time and the home remains habitable.
