Additional Ukrainian forces have been directed to northern Kharkiv Oblast, currently facing an ongoing Russian offensive, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on May 13.

“Our actions counter the offensive in Kharkiv Oblast, particularly around Vovchansk and the border regions in general, have been reinforced,” Zelenskyy in his evening address.

“Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapaty is directly responsible for this area on the ground, and he has been provided with the necessary offensive capabilities and forces.”

The president suggested that Ukraine’s efforts to halt the Russian offensive near Kharkiv look promising.

According to him, the military leadership understands the enemy’s plan as an attempt to divert Ukrainian forces from other areas of the front.

“Of course, we are not neglecting the Donetsk directions; they are provided with the necessary support and supplies, in particular, the Kramatorsk and Pokrovsk directions,” Zelenskyy added.

“We keep our unwavering focus on the Kupiansk [Kharkiv Oblast] direction. We also record enemy activities against Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts — sabotage groups, artillery shelling.”
