U.P. man arrested for threats to Menominee prosecutor, Delta Co. commissioners, others

DAGGETT, Mich. (WJMN) — A man was arrested Tuesday after “terroristic threats” were made to people in several local government organizations.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office reports their investigation began after a series of threats were made to the Menominee County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Jeffrey Rogg. It is now the second threat against Rogg that we have reported on within the year.

After the suspect’s arraignment, Rogg identified the suspect as Peter James Sand in a written statement.

We’re told the alleged threats from the Daggett man were made earlier this year, and that he took “numerous measures to conceal his identity.”

The 22-year-old Daggett Township man was arrested after a search of his home. He was lodged at the Menominee County Jail on charges of Terroristic Threats and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.

Rogg told Local 3 that he received two voicemails in February where someone made statements such as “you’re going to pay the price, just wait until I get my hands around your throat,” and “I will hurt you pretty bad… you’re dead meat Rogg.”

On the threats, Rogg said “acts intended to influence or affect the conduct of government through intimidation or coercion will not be tolerated and such persons will be held accountable. I plan to recuse myself (as the nominal victim in Menominee) and due to the multijurisdictional nature of the alleged conduct, and ask the Michigan Attorney General to prosecute these matters.”

During the investigation, police also connected the suspect to threats made to the Delta County Board of Commissioners, Marquette City Clerk’s Office, and Gold Resource Corporation.

Sheriff Holmes said he wants to remind people that they can report tips of any suspicious or criminal activity to Crime Stoppers of Menominee County on Facebook or through the Crime Stoppers mobile app.
