U-Haul truck leaks fuel at Auburn gas station

(FOX40.COM) — The Maidu Market gas station in Auburn was forced to temporarily close on Tuesday after a rented U-Haul truck began leaking fuel near the station pumps, according to the Auburn Police Department.

Crews with the Auburn Fire Department were already on the scene when police arrived and were able to seal up the leak from the rental truck’s tank.

Photos from police show a fairly large puddle of fuel began to pool near the pumps.

Firefighters armed with bags of sand were able to slow the spread of fuel and eventually clean up the hazardous spill.

As a safety measure, the pumps were closed for 30 minutes as fire crews ensured that the spilled fuel was cleared from the area.

Officers say that a rock was likely kicked up from the roadway and punctured the gas tank.
