Two motorists died after a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning on Route 100 in Ellicott City, according to Howard County Police.

Police said in a Sunday news release that they are investigating the crash that killed two women near Snowden River Parkway on Route 100's westbound section, which closed for roughly four hours after officers responded at about 2 a.m. Sunday for the three-vehicle collision.

Investigators believe a 2021 Acura RDX was traveling in the wrong direction on the state highway when it was struck by a 2010 Subaru Forester and a 2004 Lincoln Town Car. The driver of the Acura, a woman who police said was not wearing a seatbelt, and the Subaru's operator, another woman who was not identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the Lincoln was not injured, police said.
