Two traffic accidents on the same street in Moxham send pair to hospital

May 13—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — When a tow truck arrived to assist with a traffic accident on Highland Avenue in Johnstown's Moxham neighborhood Sunday evening, another vehicle traveling on Ohio Street struck the bed of the tow truck at the intersection of Highland Avenue.

Ambulances transported drivers of both vehicles to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. The first accident occurred at 6:56 p.m., and the second occurred about 30 minutes later at 7:24 p.m.

The first accident occurred when a driver struck a parked car and flipped her vehicle on Highland Avenue, Johnstown Assistant fire Chief Jim McCann said.

He said bystanders extracted the driver out of the vehicle, but he said removing a person from a vehicle could cause further harm to that person.

He advised the public not to do that unless the vehicle is on fire or unless waiting for medical professionals would cause further harm to the person in the vehicle.

The driver sustained minor injuries, McCann said. Johnstown police are investigating the cause of the crash, he said.

The second accident also necessitated the extraction of the driver from a vehicle.

In that instance, emergency medical service personnel placed a neck brace on the driver as a precaution, McCann said, and and transported her to the hospital.
