Two hospitalized after Lafayette crash involving pedestrian, road reopened

UPDATE: Lafayette Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that vehicle #1 was traveling northbound on the 300 block of Verot School Road in the outside lane, when they attempted to change into the inside lane and struck the rear driver side of vehicle #2. Vehicle #1 continued off the roadway, stuck a sign and then struck vehicle #3, which was parked next to a fuel pump at a gas station.

The driver of vehicle #3 was standing outside of his vehicle when vehicle #1 crashed into his vehicle, which threw him into the fuel pump. Officials said he received several major injuries, but none are life threatening.

The driver of vehicle #1 was taken to the Lafayette Police Department where he provided a breath sample of 0.000g%BAC. He was issued a citation for reckless driving. The crash remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– Two people were hospitalized after a major vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 300 block of Verot School Road in Lafayette.

As a result of the crash, Verot School Road going towards the Evangeline Thruway from the 300 block to the 400 block has been shut down. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Around 12:07 p.m., the Lafayette Police Department responded to the incident. One victim was sent to the hospital in critical condition, and another victim was also brought to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries, but did not want to get treated.
