Two found shot dead inside vehicle at car wash

Update: The sheriff’s office confirmed the victims had gunshot wounds. This is now a homicide investigation.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A man and woman were found dead inside a vehicle at a car wash in southeast Shelby County early Thursday, authorities say.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said deputies made the discovery while conducting a welfare check at a car wash on Lowrance Road near Hacks Cross at 4:20 a.m.

A deputy was driving by and came across the vehicle with the bodies inside, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

The victims had gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office later said, calling it a homicide investigation. No details were released on how long the two were sitting at the car wash.

The vehicle was found inside a car wash bay. It appeared to be a black Nissan.

Deputies had the car wash and an adjacent gas station blocked off while conducting their investigation into the deaths.
