Two face federal charges after attempted carjacking at Murray gym

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Two people have been charged with multiple violent crimes after allegedly attempting a carjacking that left two hospitalized at a Murray gym earlier this month.

Lt Col Siamelie Nick Mila, 20, and Maddyn Dean Christiansen of Salt Lake County have been federally charged with attempted carjacking and using, carrying, brandishing and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed with ABC4.com that Lt Col is part of Mila’s legal name and not a rank.

Mila and Christensen allegedly attempted to steal a car from the parking lot outside of a Murray Gym on April 3, according to investigators. Surveillance footage of the scene reportedly showed the victim walking to her car when Mila got out of a black Audi, driven by Christensen.

Prosecutors say Mila threatened the victim at gunpoint, demanding that she give him her car keys.

“The victim, who possessed a concealed carry permit, fired her weapon at Mila,” said prosecutors. “Mila did not legally possess a firearm.”

Mila and the victim were both shot in the attempted carjacking. Investigators said the victim can be seen “limping back” toward the gym while the Audi drove away from the scene. The victim was later taken to the hospital by first responders in critical condition. Her current condition is unknown.

Mila was reportedly dropped off at a local hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound a short time later. He was arrested after receiving medical care.

Both Mila and Christiansen made an initial court appearance on Thursday, April 18. Mila is scheduled for a detention hearing on Tuesday, April 23. A detention hearing for Christiansen was scheduled for Monday, April 29.
