Speaking for the first time since being fired from the Han Solo movie due to "creative differences", directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord followed the 'let's stay friends' tact of messy break-up speak, saying that the experience was "wonderful."

Well played, guys. Classy.

Attending a panel at the Vulture Festival in LA over the weekend, the pair revealed what it felt like to be replaced by Ron Howard with weeks left until filming wrapped, with Lord saying: "The experience of shooting the movie was wonderful. We had the most incredible cast and crew and collaborators. I think in terms of us leaving the project, I think everybody went in with really good intentions and our approach to making the movie was different than theirs. That was a really big gap to bridge, and it proved to be too big."

"Sometimes people break up, and it's really sad, and it's really disappointing", he continued. "But it happens and we learned a lot from our collaborators and we're better filmmakers for it.

"We're really proud of the work we did on the movie and we wish everybody the best."

According to reports at the time, Disney, and in particular executive producer Kathleen Kennedy, didn't care for the directors' "creative vision", with the pair making their names on comedies like 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie.

After their departure, Disney brought in Ron Howard to finish the job and extended filming until October, with the film itself is due to be released in May 2018.

In the meantime, there's the small matter of the Last Jedi to look forward to in December.
