Two bodies found days apart in rural Sumner County have been identified

The people whose bodies were found days apart in May in the same area of Sumner County have been identified, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said Friday afternoon.

DNA evidence identified them as 29-year-old Monica Rachelle Williams and 24-year-old Kevin M. Ledesma. Both had been reported missing in early January; Williams to the sheriff’s office and Ledesma to the Wichita Police Department.

“The Sheriff’s Office has identified several suspects in the case,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “There is no immediate threat to the citizens regarding this case. No further details can be released at this time. The circumstances in which these individuals were killed remains under investigation by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.”

A sheriff’s office spokesperson said no arrests have been made yet.

“The case is still under investigation,” Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said in an email. “The matter will be presented to the Office of the District Attorney next week.”

One of the bodies was found May 10 near a river in an area not close to homes; the other body was found in the same area near River Road on May 13.

“The remains are ... believed to be connected to an ongoing homicide investigation in Sedgwick County,” the sheriff’s office said after the second body was found. “The victims of the homicide were last seen at a residence in the 9500 block South Hydraulic on January 1, 2024.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office investigation division at 316-660-5300.
