What Twitter loved and hated about the Oscars

Frances McDormand stole the show at the 90th Academy Awards Sunday night after winning Best Actress and had everyone running to the Internet with two words: inclusion rider. People were initially confused by McDormand’s mic-drop moment, but once they figured out that an inclusion rider is something actors can put in their contracts to ensure gender and racial equality on projects, they were loving her speech even more.

She even got a special shout-out from fellow actor Ashley Judd, who has been very vocal about gender equality and the #MeToo movement.

People weren’t happy with all of the winners, however. There was some backlash on Twitter about Kobe Bryant and Gary Oldman‘s Oscars because of previous allegations of sexual assault and domestic abuse, respectively.

It wasn’t all negative, though. Plenty of fans celebrated the two, including Kobe’s former teammate Shaquille O’Neal.

Meanwhile, it was a big night for Mexico as Coco and The Shape of Water won multiple awards. Thousands of people took to Twitter to celebrate the victories.

Two of the night’s biggest winners were actually presenters. Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph handed out two Oscars, and people were loving the hilarious duo.

Who knows if the ladies will get a turn hosting the Oscars, but maybe we start with an uproarious buddy comedy?
