TVA offering rebates for HVAC tune-ups & system upgrades

ALABAMA (WHNT) — This week, temperatures across the Tennessee Valley soared into the upper 80’s, giving people a taste of summer.

HVAC experts say if you want to avoid the inside of your house being as warm as the outside of your house this summer, now is the time to get your system checked.

“The sooner the better,” said Larry Durham, President of Durham Service Company, Inc.

Durham says a yearly AC tune-up can save you a whole lot of money and hassle later on. He said one of the big issues they see is dirty units.

He said when coils are dirty and filters aren’t changed it can restrict the airflow.

“Which causes the unit to run at higher pressures and temperatures, which creates more wear and tear on the major components of the system” Durham added.

During a yearly tune-up, HVAC specialists will also check your refrigerant levels.

“If you’ve got a small leak that’s developing if you can catch that early on, it might save coming home one day and not having any air at all, and the expense of trying to find that leak and see if it’s repairable.”

The Tennessee Valley Authority says now is a great time to get your system checked, and they’re offering a $50 rebate on tune-ups.

“TVA wants to invest in your home and we’re offering rebates for the next five years…. We want you to be as efficient as possible to save as much money as you can,” TVA spokesperson Scott Fiedler said.

In addition to HVAC tune-ups, TVA is offering hefty rebates for people who upgrade their systems to a higher SEER level, making them more efficient.

In order to take advantage of these rebates, TVA requires customers to use contractors who are part of their Quality Contractor Network.

“TVA has vetted those contractors to make sure that they are licensed and insured and trained to our standard” Fiedler said.
