TV news anchor and mom at NC coast battling cancer, thanks many for prayers

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) — We have a note about a person many of our WNCN longtime viewers may recognize.

One of our former anchors, Donna Gregory, announced Tuesday she is now battling cancer.

Gregory, mother of four children and grandmother of two, says in the late fall or early winter she was dealing with respiratory symptoms that wouldn’t go away.

That eventually led to a biopsy with the results coming in on April 1.

She’s following a treatment plan from Wilmington doctors in the Cape Fear area and with hospitals in the Raleigh-Durham area

Gregory says she appreciates all the prayers and support she’s received

“My message to you today is one of hope, and if you have someone who is struggling with their health, encourage them to get tested,” Gregory said. “Encourage them to plug into the health care system and advocate for their own health.”

Gregory was with WNCN in the late 1990s to early 2000s.

She’s currently with WWAY Channel 3, a CBS affiliate station, in Wilmington.

She says she’ll be off the air while letting her body heal.

“My plan is to get stronger and healthier each day, and prayers help, always,” she said.
