Tzipi Hotovely, Israel’s ambassador to the UK, was called in to meet Andrew Mitchell, the foreign minister, in the Foreign Office on Tuesday after the news broke. The UK message is understood to have been similar to the comments issued publicly about the importance of an urgent investigation.
