Subway still shut down from Broadview to St. George over fluid spilled on tracks
TTC subway service on Line 2 remains shut down between Broadview and St. George stations on Monday afternoon, after an overnight work car spilled fluid on the tracks that led to train operators reporting slippery conditions, the transit agency says.
It's unclear how long the shutdown will last. The TTC has not said when service on that stretch of Line 2 will resume.
Adrian Grundy, senior communications advisor for the TTC, said late Monday afternoon crews are making sure that the fluid is removed from the tracks.
"We are testing trains through the line that will continue till we are satisfied," Grundy said.
Service between Broadview and Woodbine stations resumed earlier on Monday after some trains were previously being turned back because of subway traffic and overcrowding, the transit agency said.
The TTC's Stuart Green told CBC Radio's Metro Morning that operators reported the fluid hampered the ability to stop trains at the next station, with some experiencing a small but not significant overshoot of their regular stopping point. TTC officials said later Monday morning that the mess was caused by spilled hydraulic fluid.
Work crews are in the midst of cleaning it up.

About 30 shuttle buses were deployed by 8:15 a.m., and Green urged commuters further east of the disruption to consider taking GO Transit into the core.
The TTC says shuttle bus service has been extended from St. George to Donlands Station to "ease the pressure" on Line 2.
Service levels on both the 504 King and 505 Dundas streetcars have also been increased to help commuters downtown, the transit agency says.
