DOLTON, ll. — Former Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot may be hired to investigate allegations of corruption, cronyism and sexual misconduct in the Village of Dolton under Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

Trustees opposed to Henyard plan to vote on a resolution authorizing the investigation and Lightfoot’s contract during a special board meeting Monday night.  They say Lightfoot agreed to conduct the investigation with an initial budget of $30,000.  A spokesperson for Lightfoot could not immediately confirm the former mayor agreed to take the case. Lightfoot is a former federal prosecutor and former president of the Chicago Police Board and the Chicago Police Accountability Task Force.

The scope of the investigation will include village spending and the comingling of money between Dolton and Thornton Township, where Henyard is the supervisor. House said they will also ask Lightfoot to investigate the village’s potential legal exposure involving claims that Henyard retaliated against an aide and a police officer who reported alleged sexual misconduct on the part of a village trustee during a taxpayer funded trip to Las Vegas last year.

Henyard vetoed a previous resolution passed by the renegade trustees that called for Henyard to turn over the village’s financial records – and even the keys to village hall – following months of WGN Investigates reporting on Henyard’s spending on first class travel, fine dining and a cancer charity that bares her name.  The cancer charity has received most of his reported income from taxpayers but failed to file an accounting of how it spends its money.

Trustees planned to override Henyard’s veto during a meeting April 1 but the gathering ended in chaos after dozens of people were not allowed inside, the village’s deputy police chief claimed unspecified threats posed a safety issue.
