Troutville woman sentenced to one year for shooting husband in 2023

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A woman will serve one year in jail for shooting her husband outside their home in Troutville in January 2023.

As we previously reported, on Jan. 12, 2023, deputies with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Rhonda Larue Hinkley saying she had shot her husband. When first responders arrived, they found Hinkley standing in the driveway and her husband, Walter Thomas Hinkley, lying in the gravel.

He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Hinkley was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

According to court records, on May 7, 2024, Hinkley was sentenced to 20 years in jail with 19 suspended. Once released, she will be placed on supervised probation for five years.
