Troopers find explosive device while arresting Calhoun County fugitive

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State troopers say they found an explosive device while arresting a Calhoun County fugitive on Tuesday.

According to Michigan State Police, members of the First District’s Fugitive Team and MSP’s Emergency Support Team conducted a search warrant at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Baw Beese Inn in Hillsdale County.

The suspect, a 26-year-old from Calhoun County, had a warrant out for their arrest in Jackson County. The suspect was arrested, but while gathering evidence, troopers found a possible explosive device in the suspect’s vehicle.

An MSP bomb squad was called to the scene and secured the device.

The suspect was lodged at the Hillsdale County jail. They are expected to face additional criminal charges for possessing the explosive device.

Members of the Hillsdale Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
