Trinity United Methodist Church's preschool unveils Little Free Library, open to community

Mar. 28—Trinity United Methodist Church's Trinity Preschool celebrated its new Little Free Library on Tuesday morning. The Little Free Library is located next to the campus Blessing Box.

Books for all ages are featured and are available to all community members. Book donations are also welcomed.

Trinity's pastor, Tyler Strange, talked about the importance of encouraging childhood literacy. "The sooner you get books in children's hands the better off the children will be, the community will be.

"Who we are as followers of Jesus is people who want to impact our community, and to be able to do something that allows us to be a part of our children's development."

Director of Trinity Preschool Lea Ann McGlothin said that building the Little Free Library was this month's service project, beginning with Read Across America Week.

"We focused on various Dr. Seuss books throughout that week, and special dress up days and activities," she said. "And then as our service project of the month, the preschool has collected books all month long, and then we built the actual box."

Several students had the chance to help construct and paint the structure.

"Some of our 4K children actually came out, learned how to use a drill and tape measure and actually helped build some of it," said McGlothin.

"We do not have a library here at this church so we thought it would be good, we also wanted the kids involved," said Brittany Beason, a 2K teacher. "They had a blast!"
