In a new weekly feature, the Tribune Opinion team is selecting the best quotes of the week.

The week of May 25 gave us many choice words from local and national politicians, including our governor and mayor. And, of course, stories from the Tribune’s press operators encouraged us to reflect on the history, legacy and import of the Tribune print edition.

“I will be voting for Trump. Having said that, I stand by what I said in my suspension speech. Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me, and not assume that they’re just gonna be with him.”

Nikki Haley, former Republican presidential candidate

“It’s a choice between a president who wakes up every morning working to improve the lives of families across this country or a guy who spends all day watching TV or flatulating in a courtroom, waiting to become the first felon elected president.”

— Gov. J.B. Pritzker to the media preparing for the Democratic National Convention

“I’ve been bamboozled.”

Ald. Emma Mitts, 37th, to the Chicago Sun-Times, after she said the mayor’s office reneged on an offer to lead the Housing Committee

“When you face this level of criticism in a very public way, it can’t help but make you feel hurt.”

— CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. talking to The New York Times

“All of my nominations, whether they are commissioners or appointments, we are batting 1,000.”

— Mayor Brandon Johnson, talking to the Tribune

“You almost feel like an artist. People really don’t understand the logistics that go into the printing process. It seems like the paper just appears, but there’s a lot to it.”

— Andrew Whitaker, a Tribune press operator who will retire in June.
