Trial delayed for former Dothan beauty queen charged in Bahamas murder-for-hire plot

NASSAU, BAHAMAS (WDHN) — The trial of a Georgia mom and former Houston County resident accused of plotting to kill her estranged husband while vacationing in the Bahamas has been pushed back to the summer of 2024.

Lindsay Shiver was set to go to trial on Monday, March 4, in the Bahamian capital of Nassau on a murder-for-hire charge, but after going in front of the magistrate, it was announced her trial would be postponed.

Shiver’s new trial date has been set for Monday, July 1, 2024.

It is currently unknown why Shiver’s trial has been delayed.

Shiver was arrested in August 2023 after allegedly plotting to have Robert Shiver killed by her lover, Terrance Bethel, and his friend, Faron Newbold. All three were arrested at the same time and later released on bond.

Bahamas Court News reported law enforcement discovered the murder plot while investigating a break-in at Grabber’s Bar and Grill on Guana. They claim officers came across the messages on WhatsApp while searching the phone of one of the break-in suspects.

Bahamian authorities claim Shiver had sent photos of her husband to Newbold Jr., along with the message “Kill him.”

If convicted, Shiver, Bethel, and Newbold Jr. could face 30 and 60 years behind bars.

Shiver, whose maiden name is Shirly, was named Miss Houston County in 2005, according to Houston County Pagent Inc. She also placed second in the National Peanut Festival pageant.
