Transient attacked women with metal pipe in Long Beach, police say

The Long Beach Police Department on Friday announced that an arrest has been made in connection with a pair of assaults on women using a metal pole early this year.

On Jan. 4, Job Jesse Villegas, a 27-year-old transient, struck two women with a metal pole, police said in a news release.

Villegas first targeted a woman pushing a stroller at 21st Street and Locust Avenue at about 9:45 a.m., police said.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital for her injuries, the child was not harmed,” the release said.

At about 12:30 p.m., another woman, this time at 21st Street and Pine Avenue, was attacked as she walked past Villegas, “who struck her with a metal object without warning,” officials said. She declined medical treatment.

Villegas was arrested Monday in Los Angeles, and police said he is being held at Long Beach City Jail in lieu of $710,000 bail. Jail records, however, indicate he is at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $260,000 bail.

He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, battery and trespassing, as well as prior warrants. Jail records indicate he was due to appear in court Friday morning.
