Train crash blocks several railroad crossings in Las Cruces

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A crash involving a train and a vehicle is expected to temporarily close several railroad crossings in Las Cruces.

According to the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD), the crash happened around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at the intersection of South Main Street and West Union Avenue.

LCPD says the southbound Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) train crashed with a vehicle where west Union Avenue crosses the railroads tracks.

No injuries were reported, according to LCPD.

The train is expected an extended amount of time to repair. BNSF personnel anticipate the train to remain still until at least 8:30 p.m. and possible even later Wednesday evening, according to LCPD.

At the moment, the train is at a standstill between Watson Lane in Mesilla Park and Avenida de Mesilla in Las Cruces, according to LCPD.

LCPD says drivers can still use the two crossings.
