Train collides with tractor-trailer near Charlotte airport; road closed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A road is blocked in west Charlotte after a train collided with a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the 8600 block of Old Dowd Road near Interstate 485.

Firefighters say the tractor-trailer was stuck on the tracks when a Norfolk Southern train ran into it. The road is closed at the railroad crossing “until further notice.”

N.C. Department of Transportation says it will reopen by 8:30 p.m.

Tractor-trailer overturns, fuel spill closes Gastonia highway: Police

Several fire department crews have responded to the scene, including from Gaston County. No injuries were reported, and firefighters said there were no hazmat concerns.

The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal is investigating this accident.
