Seven years after its last instalment, the "Alien" franchise is set to get a new film in August promising to be particularly gory.

Even by the standards of the films that brought us the indelible image of a deadly parasitic alien bursting out of a human chest, the first trailer for "Alien: Romulus", which 20th Century Studios has posted on YouTube, appears to be seeking new heights of horror.

"Help! Someone help me please," cries the trailer's first voice as we track through a dark spaceship and see streaks of blood as the voice turns to screams.

At the same time, we're told the seventh film in the "Alien" series is to be the first directed by Fede Álvarez, known for his 2013 horror film "Evil Dead" as well as nightmarish escape thriller "Don't Breathe".

Yes, there enough glimpses of horror in this one-minute trailer to give you nightmares, and more than you might expect from a sci-fi action film.

"Romulus" is set to tell the story of a group of young people who want to raid what appears to be an abandoned research station. Only then does their facehugger-packed nightmare begin.

Fans are hopeful that Álvarez will bring a fresh take to the franchise after the last film in the series received lukewarm reviews.
