‘Tragedy’: 3 people killed in apparent murder-suicide in Statesville

STATESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Three people have been found dead following an apparent murder-suicide at a Statesville home Friday morning, authorities confirmed.

Statesville Police responded to a 911 call for shots fired around 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, in a residential area in the 100 block of Bunker Hill Lane.

Three people were found dead inside the home. Police said during the incident, an infant child was also found inside the home, but was not harmed.

Neighbors tell Queen City News that by the time police arrived at the scene Friday morning, two women were dead and a man with a shotgun was still around inside the home.

Witnesses report that police tried to negotiate with the man for more than one hour before police said he turned the gun on himself.

The crime scene stretched across two homes in a Statesville culdesac. Neighbors said one woman was killed inside the home and the other woman ran across the street to the neighbor’s house to ask for help.

“I could hear a beating on the door and by the time I got to the door, my wife had already opened the door. I could hear my wife saying, ‘Please don’t. Please don’t.’ And then I heard two shots,” Larry McCorkle said, who is retired law enforcement.
