Traffic stop results in drugs, guns seized, juveniles charged

SCOTT TWP., COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police stated a traffic stop resulted in multiple people being charged, including juveniles after drugs and stolen guns were seized.

Scott Township Police officers conducted a heavy patrol throughout the Scott Township area on April 19 and 20, with a focus on Lightstreet Road (State Route 487) and Columbia Boulevard (Route 11) due to the annual Bloomsburg block party.

During the enforcement, officers pulled over a car near Lightstreet Road and St. Lukes Way. During the stop, police said they noticed “several suspicious indicators and detected the distinct odor of a controlled substance” inside the car.

Officers were given permission to search the car and investigators said it led them to discover two illegally possessed guns and drugs.

One weapon was a loaded 9mm handgun that was found hidden in the passenger, police stated The second gun was a loaded 9mm handgun discovered along with narcotics on the floor of the car where a juvenile passenger was seated, investigators stated.

Police say they learned that the 9mm gun that the juvenile had was stolen during an altercation in a Wilkes-Barre park. These individuals were coming from the Wilkes Barre City to attend the block party, officers noted.

Charges for firearms violations and narcotics possession were filed against both the adult and juveniles.
