Tractor-trailer crash causes thousands of pounds of frozen chicken to close Old Stage Hwy

SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) – Thousands of pounds of frozen chicken had to be cleared off Old Stage Highway due to an overnight tractor-trailer crash.

According to officials, on Thursday shortly after midnight, a tractor-trailer carrying 39,000 pounds of frozen chicken ran off the roadway and flipped on its side due to an overcorrection.

The truck lost its complete load as a result of the crash.

Old Stage Highway remains closed as of 6 a.m. as crews work to clear the road.

According to State police, no injuries were reported in this crash.
