TPD track down stolen vehicle, make arrest

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka police say one person is in custody during a stolen vehicle investigation Tuesday morning.

The Topeka Police Department was called around 7:30 a.m. on April 23 to the 1800 block of SE Ohio Avenue on reports of a stolen vehicle. Officers arriving at the scene found the vehicle and tried to pull it over.

City spokeswoman Rosie Nichols says the driver fled from police. Officers later found the vehicle unoccupied near Third Street and Lime Street. A suspect was also found in a nearby residence and taken into custody.

Nichols says a 22-year-old Topeka man was arrested in connection to the incident. He was taken to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on the following charges:

  • Flee or attempt to elude; operate a stolen vehicle

  • Theft > $1,500 <$25,000 from motor vehicle

  • Probation county on felony
