Toys for sick children destroyed when superhero organization’s trailer burned

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A local non-profit whose members dress as superheroes to help cheer up children in the hospital needs some help.

6 News first reported earlier this week that nearly half of the organization’s belongings were destroyed in a trailer fire.

The president of the League of Enchantment, Shamus Smith, was transporting a trailer full of items to its new office facility when a tire blew while driving on US 127 near Cedar Street.
Smith said sparks from the wheel went inside the trailer starting a fire.

Before emergency crews could get there he said the flames were 10 feet high and the trailer walls were melting.

“It was cases of toys for the kids,” Smith told 6 News. “It was office equipment, all of the stuff we need to function as a non-profit that we need to keep us rolling.”

Smith estimates the organization lost more than $40,000, including the trailer.

The group has a fundraiser underway online where you can donate along with an Amazon wish list.
