Toy Shop to host rummage sale in May

Apr. 29—The Toy Shop of Duncan will raise funds to provide area children with Christmas presents by hosting its final rummage sale before summertime.

The toy shop will set up operations from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 2; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 3; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4.

Executive Director Kim Davis said their mission has grown over the years to mean more than giving toys at Christmas time.

"A few years ago the Toy Shop was fortunate to acquire a permanent home and has enabled us to do more things than we ever thought possible," she said.

Through fundraising efforts, Davis said they now host five to six rummage sales a year.

"These sales are known for having good quality, very low priced clothing and household goods," she said. "We usually have an overflow of shoppers."

While preparing for the sales, Davis said they look forward to seeing a wide variety of volunteers come to help out.

Davis said the support they receive from the community is unbelievable through not only a record number of donations, but also a record number of sales.

"On average, we provide for 1,000 children," she said.

Davis said each child they provide for will receive around $100 in new gifts each year.

"The money raised at our warehouse through rummage sales will be used to purchase toys for the children in the community," she said. "Our May sale will be our final sale until September.

The Toy Shop will host a sale in September and October prior to beginning to register families for the Christmas giveaway in November.
