Watch Live: Severe storms move into the Kansas City metro overnight

12:10 a.m. UPDATE: The Tornado Warning for southeastern Johnson County in west central Missouri has been extended until 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.

12:00 a.m. UPDATE: A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 12:30 a.m. Tuesday for southeastern Lafayette County and northeastern Johnson County, Missouri.

Just after midnight, thunderstorms capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage was located over Oak Grove.

Areas impacted include Higginsville, Concordia, Alma, Blackburn, Emma, Aullville and Fayetteville.

The Tornado Watch has been canceled for Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Douglas, Miami and Linn counties in Kansas and Jackson, Cass, Clay, Platte, Clinton, Dekalb, Bates, Buchanan, Nodaway counties in Missouri.


11:45 p.m. UPDATE: The National Weather Service is extending the Tornado Warning for northwestern Johnson County, Missouri and central Ray County until 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Areas impacted include Warrensburg, Holden, Kingsville, Centerview, Fayetteville and Pittsville.

A Tornado Warning has been canceled for Lafayette, Cass, Henry, and Bates counties.

The Tornado Warning for Jackson County has also been canceled.

Just after 11:30 p.m. severe thunderstorms capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage were located near Creighton.

Areas impacted include Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Richmond, Odessa, Lexington, Wellington, Henrietta, Levasy, Napoleon, Bates City, Camden, Fleming, Urich, Creighton, Blairstown, Ballard, Hartwell and Quick City.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has canceled the Tornado Warning for Clinton, Platte and Clay counties just before 11:30 p.m.

Just before 11 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Smithville, moving northeast.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the Kansas City area Monday night.

The following counties are under a Tornado Watch is in effect until 4 a.m. for Johnson, Wyandotte, Douglas, Leavenworth, Miami Atchison, Brown and Linn counties on the Kansas side and Jackson, Platte, Cass, Clay, Johnson, Ray, Lafayette, Caldwell, Dekalb, Clinton, Henry, Nodaway and Buchanan on the Missouri side.

If there’s a tornado warning, that means the severe weather is here now and you need to seek shelter immediately.

The FOX4 Weather team is watching a line of storms moving into the Kansas City metro.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties in Kansas until 11:15 p.m. and Platte County in Missouri, also until 11:15 p.m.

Damaging wind is the first number concern, followed by brief spin-ups and hail.
