Tornado touchdown confirmed in Marlboro County, National Weather Service says

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — An EF-0 tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Marlboro County Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service said.

The NWS found storm damage in the Blenheim area of the county. Tornadoes were also confirmed in Robeson and Marion counties that night.

The NWS damage survey for the tornado estimated peak winds at about 85 mph, with the path’s length at about 1.67 miles. The width was estimated to max out at about 150 yards.

The tornado started near River Road, uprooting and snapping a few oak trees, the NWS said. The tornado reached Screwpin Road where it caused “extensive shingle removal” on the southwest side of a single-family home.

Other property in the area was damaged, including a few Bradford pear trees and a 50-60 foot flagpole, according to the NWS.

The EF-1 tornado in Marion brought 90 mph winds and cut a path nearly 2 miles wide, the NWS said.
