Topeka High grad wins national title with Blue Dragons

CASPER, Wyoming (KSNT) – Topeka High graduate Kiki Smith simply loves to win.

The former Lady Trojan hoisted the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship trophy on Monday with Hutchinson Community College.

Smith and the Blue Dragons beat Northwest Florida State 88-80 in overtime. The T-High product scored 23 points in the win, after posting 18 in Sunday’s semifinal game.

It’s the first national title in program history for Hutch CC women’s basketball.

Smith, a 2023 high school graduate, started all 37 games for the Blue Dragons in her true freshman season, helping the team finish unbeaten.

She flipped her commitment to Hutch CC after originally signing to play DI with Evansville. Smith earned Freshman of the Year and League MVP honors in the Jayhawk conference in her first season of college hoops.
