TN registered sex offender charged with new child sex crimes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Jackson, Tennessee registered sex offender has been indicted on multiple new federal child exploitation offenses, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The multi-count indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in the Western District of Tennessee on Monday.

Markettus Lorenzo Broyld, 47, of Jackson is charged with the production of child pornography, coercion and enticement of a minor, receipt and possession of child pornography, and commission of a felony offense involving a minor as a registered sex offender.

The charges are related to interactions Broyld had with a minor in the Jackson area in December 2022, reports say.

According to the indictment, Broyld engaged in electronic communications with a minor, where he allegedly asked the minor to take and send sexually explicit photos and videos. The minor complied with the requests.

Broyld also allegedly possessed child pornographic photos and videos on his cell phone.

He was a convicted sex offender and was required to register under the sex offender registry in the state of Tennessee when the alleged offenses took place.

Broyld is facing a sentence of up to life in prison if he is convicted of all of the charges. His trial date is set for October 15 of this year.

The case is being investigated by the FBI Memphis Child Exploitation Task Force and the Jackson Police Department.
