Tim Scott dodges on accepting 2024 election results, says Trump will be president

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) repeatedly dodged questions in a Sunday interview on whether he would commit to accepting the 2024 election results, no matter who wins, instead saying former President Trump will win his campaign for the White House.
In an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Kristen Welker pressed Scott — who is considered a contender for Trump’s vice-presidential pick — on Trump’s refusal to accept his loss in the 2020 presidential election and his refusal to commit to accepting the election results in 2024 if he loses.
Welker asked why he would want to join Trump on the ticket “when there’s such a fundamental difference,” and Scott defended Trump’s recent statement.
Welker then asked Scott whether he would commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election.
“At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump. And I’m excited to get back to low inflation, low unemployment,” Scott replied before Welker cut in.
“Wait, wait, senator. Yes or no; yes or no? Will you accept the election results of 2024, no matter who wins?”
“That is my statement,” Scott replied.
Welker continued pressing.
“But just yes or no: Will you accept the election results of 2024?” Welker asked again.
Scott would not budge from his position.
“I look forward to President Trump being the 47th president. Kristen, you can ask it multiple times,” he said, as Welker cut in again asking for “just a yes or no answer.”
“The American people will make the decision, and the decision will be for President Trump.”
“I don’t hear you committing to the election results. Will you commit to accepting the election results?”
Scott then pivoted to attacking Welker and her network, saying, “This is why so many Americans believe that NBC is an extension of the Democrat party.”
“At the end of the day, I said what I said. I know that the American people, their voices will be heard, and I believe that President Trump will be our next president. It’s that simple,” he said.
Welker asked once more, noting Scott is a potential vice-presidential nominee, and Scott repeated his confidence in Trump’s victory in 2024 and said, “I’m not going to answer your hypothetical question.”
