A transporter was able to rescue the Osprey and care for it until Education Assistant Liz Orwig could get it on Sunday, April 7, 2024. After taking it for X-Rays on Monday, April 8, 2024, it was revealed that the Osprey’s left wing had multiple fractures of the radius and ulna, which was a challenge for surgical stabilization.

The surgery was done successfully by Dr. Stephenson, however the Osprey is still in guarded condition.

The Three Rivers Avian Center stated that it is very hard to get Osprey’s to eat in captivity. Osprey’s hate being held captive no matter how large of an area they are kept in, and it is very easy for them to get stressed.

While hand feedings or feeding tubes with pureed foods can be given to birds that will not eat on their own, it does not work with Osprey’s as they will throw it up once away from people.

The Three Rivers Avian Center stated that they are not sure how the case will turn out as it is a challenge. The Osprey is on anti-inflammatory pain medications and antibiotics, and when it comes to food, according to the Three Rivers Avian Center, it is Osprey 4, Humans 0.
