Three men accused of stealing boats, motors in Livingston Parish arrested

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrested three men accused of stealing boats and motors in Livingston Parish.

Triton D. Bercegeay, 18, of St. Amant, Keegan K. Perkins, 18, of Gonzales and Dawson C. Landry, 18, of Napoleonville were booked into the Livingston Parish Jail. The three men face charges including two counts of theft.

The three men were reportedly frogging on Sunday, Feb. 25 when they took an 18-foot bass boat with a 150-horsepower motor from a home on Chinquapin Canal, according to LDWF.

The three men would ride around in the bass boat until they discovered an “aluminum vessel with a 25-horsepower motor in a boat slip in the canal,” which they would proceed to attach to their truck and trailer.

After they attached the aluminum vessel to their truck and trailer, they would leave the bass boat in the canal. LDWF reported, “Later that morning, a neighbor found the drifting bass boat, recovered it and returned it to the owner.”

Bercegeay and Perkins would drop off Landry at his truck. Bercegeay and Perkins took the aluminum boat to the New River Canal in Ascension Parish, according to LDWF.

The two men reportedly grabbed the motor, running lights, fuel tank and jack plate off the aluminum boat. The two men would leave the aluminum boat in the New River Canal.

On the morning of Thursday, Feb. 25, a neighbor contacted the authorities after discovering the aluminum boat the two men left in the canal. According to LDWF, agents were able to return the stolen boat, motor, running lights, fuel tank and jack plate to the owner.

The three men admitted to stealing two vessels after they were questioned. According to LDWF, Bercegeay also admitted to harvesting a deer in Ascension Parish in December 2023 without a deer license or tags.

Bercegeay may also face “civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer,” according to LDWF.
