Thousands without power in St. Louis metro amid severe storms

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – Thousands of people are without power in the area as severe weather rolled through the region earlier.

Ameren reports more than 1,400 outages in Perry County as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Right now, in the St. Louis region, there are around 1,700 customers without power in Missouri and around 5,700 without power in Illinois.

Severe storms have packed rain, hail, heavy winds and even some tornado threats Wednesday afternoon. Severe weather is expected in the region through the evening hours.

One of the cities impacted was St. Genevieve, which experienced a major outage coinciding with their second tornado warning of the day. Places like restaurants, gas stations, and stop lights all experienced outages.

The city was facing a double crisis, navigating through the aftermath of severe weather while dealing with the challenges of restoring essential services.
