Third suspect arrested in connection to deadly shooting at Hinds County club

A third suspect has been arrested in connection to a deadly nightclub shooting that left one person dead and four injured, according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.

Jones said via a Tuesday social media post that Anthony Brown, 48, was charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault for his alleged role in a Sunday midnight shooting at the Sugar Shack Club in Utica.

According to Jones, Brown was taken into custody Monday evening after being released from the hospital for treatment. Brown sustained "several gunshot wounds" during the incident.

On Monday, Jones identified two other suspects as 34-year-old Eric Dixon and 42-year-old Joseph Crum, who face the same charges as Brown.

"This brings to total arrests made to three at this point," Jones wrote. "The investigation is ongoing, and more charges and/or arrests are possible."

According to Jones, gunfire occurred at the nightclub on Lee Davis Circle with responding deputies finding 41-year-old Jason Harris shot "multiple times" and dead at the scene.

The sheriff said four more people, including Anthony Brown, were injured and transported to local hospitals for treatment by private vehicles. The sheriff identified the three other victims as 53-year-old Michael Brown, 29-year-old Deidra Williams, and 22-year-old Lorenzo Cooper.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving the deceased and three other individuals.

According to the sheriff, investigators believe the individuals know each other.

"We believe they know each other," Jones said at a Monday press conference. "As a matter of fact, the individual that has been identified as Eric Dixon, that has been arrested and charged, is the brother of the deceased victim that we have identified as Jason Harris."
