Thieves spit on managers in Dick’s Sporting Goods robbery

(KRON) – Two retail store managers were spat on and one was threatened with a knife by two alleged thieves, according to Daly City Police Department.

The theft occurred at 12:51 p.m. on May 3. Daly City police officers were dispatched to Serramonte Shopping Center’s Dick’s Sporting Goods for a robbery. Two individuals who allegedly concealed merchandise in their bags were asked by loss prevention officers to return the stolen items. According to police, the thieves returned a T-shirt and socks, however, the suspects were carrying additional merchandise.

The loss prevention officers and two assistant managers followed the suspects outside the store. According to police, one of the suspects began to spit on one of the assistant manager’s chests. This escalated to the two pushing each other, police said. The second suspect attempted to spit on the other assistant manager and missed. The suspect subsequently pointed a canister of pepper spray at one of the assistant managers and the loss prevention employee. According to police, the other suspect had a knife brandished at them. The suspects fled on foot.

Police later located the thieves on Serramonte Boulevard, across from the Highway 280 northbound on-ramp. The loss prevention officer identified the suspects, which led to their arrests.

The first suspect was identified as a 26-year-old transient. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for robbery and conspiracy.

The second suspect was identified as a 20-year-old San Francisco resident. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for robbery and conspiracy.

According to police, approximately $400 worth of merchandise was recovered.
