Thieves break into law enforcement vehicles on Chicago’s northwest side

CHICAGO — Marked and unmarked law enforcement vehicles were hit in a string of car break-ins on the city’s northwest side, police said.

A community alert issued Tuesday said at least three vehicles were broken into in Forest Glen, Norwood Park, and Edison Park since Sunday. In each of the cases, authorities said the thieves pulled up in a dark-colored SUV, broke vehicle windows and stole items from inside.

Police said the incidents occurred:

  • Between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday on the 6900 block of N. Owen Ave.

  • Between 2 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday on the 5400 block of N. Oriole Ave.

  • At 1:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 6900 block of N. Keota Ave.
