Texas Tech Dental Clinic offers free screenings, cleanings to YISD students

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic will be providing free screenings and cleanings to 120 students on Thursday, April 18.

Ysleta Independent School District students from Cesar Chavez Elementary School and Pasodale Elementary Schools will be participating in the community health event, according to a news release from Texas Tech.

The Hunt School of Dental Medicine third-year students will be doing the cleanings and educating students on studying habits and more.

According to Texas Tech, many children in the U.S. do not have access to dental care. Studies showed that in underserved communities new to the U.S.-Mexico border have lost more than 51 million hours of classroom time due to preventable health conditions.

Since the opening of the Dental Oral Health Clinic in 2021, Texas Tech has provided more than 29,000 hours of reduced-cost care in the Borderland, according to the news release.
