Texas State Troopers increase patrols for Memorial Day weekend in Concho Valley

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Texas State Troopers will be out in full force across the Concho Valley this Memorial Day weekend, emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices.

One key focus for law enforcement is limiting distractions from cell phones and other devices while driving. Last year, distracted drivers were responsible for one out of every six vehicle crashes on Texas roadways.

“Zero tolerance is what we want to look at when it comes to drinking and driving,” said Sgt. Justin Baker, media communications officer. “If you’re going to have any sip of alcohol, plan to use available services in your community. There are many options, so find those apps, find those numbers, and make those calls. Even if it’s embarrassing, it’s better safe than sorry. We don’t want anybody getting hurt out here.”

In addition to enforcing laws against distracted and impaired driving, DPS troopers will be conducting two key initiatives this weekend: the Click It or Ticket seatbelt campaign and Operation CARE (Crash Awareness and Reduction Efforts).

Authorities urge all drivers to prioritize safety and make responsible choices to ensure a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
