OCEAN CITY, N.J. - A night on the boardwalk took a violent turn when police say a 15-year-old boy became the victim of a stabbing in one of several incidents that kicked off Memorial Day weekend.

Police say the stabbing stemmed from a fight that erupted on the 1000 block of the boardwalk around 9 p.m. Saturday.

A male suspect stabbed the 15-year-old boy, according to authorities.

The teen was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. No further details about the suspect have been released.

Videos posted online show crowds of people running and screaming as they flee the boardwalk and police appear to make arrests.

One witness said the whole ordeal was "pretty scary," while another was shocked that these things were happening in a place meant to be "peaceful."

Ocean City Mayor Jay A. Gillian said large crowds of teens caused "a number of issues" this weekend, including shoplifting, fights and disorderly conduct.

"I understand the impact that this behavior has on all of our residents, guests and business owners, and I want to assure everybody that Ocean City will not tolerate it," Gillian said in a statement.

Multiple arrests were made as police restored order to the boardwalk, according to the mayor. However, no further details have been released.
