Teen Dining with Parents on Greece Trip Was Allegedly Raped in Bar Bathroom by Stranger

A 16-year-old British girl dining with her family in Greece was allegedly raped by a stranger when she was in the bathroom, authorities allege, according to local news outlets.

The alleged attack took place at a bar in Malia, on the Greek island of Crete, on Wednesday, May 8, according to local news outlets Protothema, Greek City Times and Athens News Agency.

The teenager was on vacation with her family at the time, the outlets reported.

The teen alleged to authorities that she was in the bathroom when a man attacked and raped her, per Athens News Agency and Protothema.

The suspect was arrested. He has not been named, but Protothema and Greek City Times identified him as a 28-year-old man.

The suspect allegedly tried to escape following the incident, Protothema reported. The alleged victim and her mother went to local police to file a complaint, per the outlet.

Authorities soon apprehended the suspect after they reviewed security footage from the bar and surrounding businesses, per Protothema and Greek City Times.

Information about charges was not immediately available.
