Teen charged with armed robbery, assault

Apr. 25—VALDOSTA — A Valdosta teen was charged Thursday with armed robbery and aggravated assault after a store robbery on Monday.

Around 9:40 p.m., police headed to a convenience store in the 900 block of Baytree Road after the store clerk reported a robbery to E911, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.

Witnesses told officers a man had come into the store with a firearm and took money and goods, the statement said.

While reviewing surveillance video Wednesday, detectives identified a suspect and obtained arrest warrants for armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, all felony charges, police said.

Around 5 a.m. Thursday, officers headed to the 100 block of East Hill Avenue after an E911 caller reported suspicious activity in a parking lot. The suspect in the store robbery — described as a 19-year-old Valdosta man — was taken into custody; a stolen firearm was found on him, the police statement said.

"This is incredible teamwork by our department. From the quick identification of the offender by detectives, all the way to the successful apprehension of him, along with the recovery of a firearm. I am proud of the effort by our entire department," said Police Chief Leslie Manahan
